1. What is the idea? |
The idea is simple: to try and make £1m by selling 1,000,000 pixels for £1 each or in other words an ad space for £100. Hence,'The Million£Ad'. The main motivation for doing this is to raise money for Charity including the John Taylor Foundation a registered charity (1101008) that I set up in 2002 in memory of my former partner who died suddenly of Cardiomyopathy (one of its aims being to raise the awareness of Cardiomyopathy), and secondly I love making web sites and thought it would be a great idea to have an ad worth £1m and fun to do in the process! Also I wanted to give people the opportunity to win some money as well. So, everyone is welcome to buy pixels, which are available in 100-pixel 'squares' (each measuring 10x10 pixels). You will see the homepage is divided into 10,000 of these 100-pixel blocks (hence there are 1,000,000 pixels in total). The reason for selling them in 100-pixel blocks is because anything smaller would be too small to display anything meaningful. You can buy as many pixels as you like, as long as there are some available (see the live stats in the top left and right corner of the pages). When you buy some pixels, you can then display an image/ad/logo of your choice in the space you have purchased. You can also have the image link through to your own web site. However, no obscene or offensive images or sites are allowed. The pixels you buy will be displayed on the homepage permanently. The homepage will not change. Using some of the money I make from the site, I guarantee to keep it online for at least 2 years, but hopefully much longer. |

Hi, let me tell you abit about my self. My name is Kirstin Bailey, I am 36 years old and live nr Maclesfield, Cheshire. I was brought up in West Yorkshire by my mum Ellen. I graduated in the year 2000 from Leeds Met Uni with an Honary Degree in Business Management which I paid for by working full time. I then completed a full time 2 year PGCE in ICT at Huddersfield Uni and have been teaching ICT for 6 years, at the moment I am working part time at Kings School in Macclesfield. In 2005 I moved to Cheshire and married Simon the following year. I met Simon while fell running for Bingley Harriers (you can see my photo at the top right of the Bingley harrier homepage) which is my main hobby, in fact I have been running since the age of 8 and love it! Below is one of my favorite photo’s of me in action running down Ingleborough after running round the 3peaks - dont look too bad to say I've just run a mountain marathon!!. We also have a super fab gorgeous son Oliver (of course I am totally bias) who was born on the 10th June 2007. (photo by Pete Hartley) |

What will you do with the money? I will give 50% of the profit to a charity of your choice or if you don't name one the John Taylor Foundation which has two main objects: to financially help young athletes and to raise the awareness of Cardiomyopathy. I will complete a prize draw at the end of the project. 1st prize is £100,000.00 (or 10% of the total earnings) It's free to enter all you have to do is buy some pixels!!! Remember you have to be in it to win it ££££. The rest of the money (once the tax man has had his wedge) I will use to bring up my son and to re-locate my mum nearer (I miss her!) and look after our fab dogs and cats! You've got to have dreams.................... |

Because you will have an image and a link to your site on the homepage of a site that could potentially be seen by millions of people over the coming years. The site will be online for at least 2 years, that's guaranteed, but the idea is to keep it online forever. |
Why can't I buy one single pixel? I decided that although it would probably be cool if individuals could buy a single pixel each, in practice, it wouldn't so effective. The reason I believe this is because you can't display anything meaningful in one pixel - nor click it easily - so visually, it would be pointless. With thousands of random tiny coloured dots all over the place, the homepage would look tragic. I also thought that the site would appeal more to people with businesses/web sites to advertise than it would to individuals, or to put it more accurately, businesses would pay more to have a meaningful graphic on the homepage. Hence the minimum purchase is £100 - a 10x10 square. However! If you really want to own a single pixel, there is always the option of clubbing together with your friends/family/colleagues and buying a 10x10 block. |
How long will the site be online? The site will be online for 2 years guaranteed, however the aim is to keep the site online forever (or as long as humanly possible). |

Is the Idea original and genuine? Yes, its the first Million£-Ad that donates money to charity and you can win some money too! The idea is extremely genuine. The John Taylor Foundation was set up in 2002 and became a registered charity in 2003 (1101008 - my address may have changed as I have moved). It was set up originally in memory of my former partner John Taylor who died suddenly from Cardiomyopathy in August 2002, its main aims are to financially help young athletes and also to raise the awareness of Cardiomyopathy. The charity so far has been really successful and we have helped many young athletes, you can log onto the charities web-site and see the news page and athletes reports page. |

All you have to do is make your selection from the homepage by hovering where you want your Ad to appear, then click the buy button and send in your details (Your name, e-mail address, Grid reference, number of pixels you want to purchase (e.g. 100, 200 etc..), the message and your Ad), you will then be sent an e-mail from paypal and once your payment is clear then your Ad will appear! Simple as that. |
